Our bakery is being refurbished!
The bakery at Camphill Blair Drummond is a bit of an institution. Every day we produce delicious bread rolls and biscuits, the eating of which is an important part of our day! Our bakery is in one of the old mansion house kitchens and is over forty years old. Our plans to upgrade the bakery – now approved! – include an extension which will give us a modernised work space and room for new ovens.
More bread for everyone
The current layout and the thirty-year-old three tier oven makes baking difficult for some of our residents. Our new bakery will mean we can be much more efficient. We supply bread regularly to local farm shops including the Smiddy in Blair Drummond, a café and NeighbourFood, a local social enterprise. With our new bakery, we are able to make more and more varied breads for ourselves but also for more local outlets. And hopefully we’ll eventually have a small on-site shop where staff and visitors can buy our bread.
Once it’s up and running, the new bakery will bring new job experience and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities who aren’t currently part of our community. We also want to offer bakery master classes and employee volunteering experiences.
We’ve just launched our appeal – to raise £49K to help with the growth of our bakery workshop and development of a new social enterprise.
You can order our bread through the online market NeighbourFood and collect every Thursday between 16.30 - 18.30 from Stirling High School.
