Finance Assistant and Head Gardener

Experienced and enthusiastic Head Gardener required!

What it’s like to work here.

Situated in 5 acres of ground overlooking Blair Drummond Safari Park and surrounding countryside, Camphill Blair Drummond is a thriving residential and day service community for adults with complex learning disabilities. Contributions to community life are made in many different ways by all who live and work here. Tasks are shared by everyone and matched to individual abilities. Daily work activities, such as baking bread, tending the gardens and estate grounds, are part of the normal pattern of life. We are a unique community where every individual contributes to the care of our gardens and estate.

What you will be doing.

You’ll love working outdoors and understand that our gardens are not just a place for those who live here to play and relax in, but are a place to allow us to grow our own vegetables, fruit and herbs to use in our homes and supply our bakery throughout the year.
We don’t just need you to maintain our beautiful gardens, we want you to be involved in its planning and development for the years to come and this will involve working alongside people with learning disabilities, employees and local and international volunteers.

Who we are looking for.

The post is ideally suited to someone with several years' professional horticultural experience in a public or private garden, who has excellent communication skills, recognised horticultural qualifications, and good horticultural and technical knowledge.

Duties will include all aspects of vegetable, fruit and herb production within an organic framework. You must have some experience growing edibles, be hard working, organised and committed to maintaining the gardens to the highest standards.
You should be qualified in spraying and chainsaw work, and have experience with garden machinery, including hedge-cutters, strimmers, and pedestrian and ride-on mowers, with knowledge of their basic maintenance.
Whilst experience of working with people with learning disabilities would be an advantage, it is not essential.

As we are a rural community, a full clean UK driving licence and your own transport is necessary.
