Growing Together
This garden tells a story - of people, place, and what it means to belong.
For 50 years, Camphill Blair Drummond has been a community where people come together to live, work and share life. Here, adults with learning disabilities, employees and volunteers build relationships through everyday moments - through meaningful work, creativity, and connection to the natural world.
Growing Together grew from that same spirit.
It began as an idea: how do you capture a community in a garden? The answer was simple - you build it together.
Residents, students, volunteers and employees have all played a part in bringing this space to life. From early sketches and conversations, to shaping the ground beneath your feet, placing stone, and preparing for planting, this garden has been created through shared effort, patience and care. Every step reflects the way our community works - side by side, each contribution valued.
At the heart of the design is a story of connection, strength and growth. The triangular forms that run through the garden - in both the planting and the sculptures - symbolise strength. Each triangle is unique, reflecting the individuality of every person in our community. Together, they create something strong, balanced and lasting - a reflection of how our community stands together.
The three points of each triangle, represent our past, present and future - honouring where we have come from, celebrating where we are now, and looking ahead to what is still to grow. The sculptures themselves are created using wood, glass, clay and fabrics, reflecting the creativity and diversity within our community.
Around them, diverse and inclusive planting brings texture, colour and contrast, showing how difference can come together in harmony.
Sustainability runs throughout the garden. Materials have been thoughtfully sourced and reused, including natural stone slabs and timber from naturally fallen trees, reflecting both a respect for the land and a belief in using what we have with care and responsibility.
As you move through the space, you may notice that it feels open, evolving, and gently shaped rather than fixed. Like any community, its story continues - and when the garden returns to Camphill Blair Drummond, it will become part of our ongoing story, continuing to grow and change over time.
What you see here is more than a garden. It is a reflection of relationships, of people learning from one another, supporting one another, and creating something that could not exist alone.
Growing Together is an invitation, to pause, to notice, and to imagine what is possible when we truly grow together.
Acknowledgements
We could not have created this garden without the generous support of our sponsors, partners and wider community. Thank you for helping bring Growing Together to life.
