Community Life

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about Camphill Blair Drummond, is that it is a community, where people live and work together. Home life in our community very much resembles family life. We share a home, meals and social times. This means that the house you are allocated to is your home for your time here. You will live alongside residents, employees, and other volunteers that are all pitching in to make it a nice and comfortable home that feels welcoming and warm.

In your day-to-day, you will be supporting the residents to engage in daily life. This could range from supporting them to make dinner, taking part in household chores and to attending Day Service activities.

A lot is going on in our community in the way of social activities, ranging from small informal groups, to our festivals and celebrations that form the rhythm of the year. You will be actively involved in preparing and facilitating these events utilising the skills you will bring and the many skills you will gain during your time at Camphill Blair Drummond. You will also have countless opportunities to enhance your practical skills, supporting the residents and students in their daily lives and in your free time. You learn how to work with wood or clay, learn horticultural techniques in the gardens, work on estate projects, and share and develop your creative, artistic and musical talents.

Creating the right atmosphere where people can live, work and grow together is a shared community responsibility. It’s essential that everyone feels included and comfortable in expressing their needs and ideas, and that their voices are heard. During your year here you will be encouraged and challenged to grow and develop alongside the community.

"Not only has Camphill provided me with such poignant memories, it has also allowed me to learn so much about myself. Camphill has supported me to challenge myself, develop new skills and more than anything else, build forever friendships with people from all over the world."
