Our Advent Sale

Our Advent Sale is now our biggest annual fundraising event featuring a wide range of handcrafted items, along with some delicious home-baked goods and refreshments.

Held on the first Saturday in December from 13.00 – 16.00 at Blair Drummond House, Cuthill Brea, Stirling FK9 4UT, the Sale is open to the public as well as to our friends and family. It is a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season and a chance for everyone to join in celebrating the creativity and achievements of our community.

We are pleased to announce that in 2024 the overall total monies raised on the day was £13,606.66.

Background to our Advent Sale

Twenty years ago our Advent Sale was a small family and friends' event. It gave our community the opportunity to showcase and share our year’s achievements with family and friends.

At the time, our community had far fewer residents and only a handful of day students. Our traditional activities included woodwork, bakery, weaving, basketry, craft, estate and gardening, and we based our work on the Camphill ethos – where we recognise that everyone is unique and has the potential to flourish, contribute and participate in a meaningful way to society. This core belief remains central to our charitable purposes and the life and work of our Camphill community today.

Over the years as our community has evolved and adapted in line with the needs and interests of our residents and day students, our Advent Sale has grown,. We now have a wider range of meaningful work and activities, including Media, Nurture Nature and Digital Design to help us keep pace with the changing world.

Throughout the year, we support our residents and day students to develop their skills and creativity, working towards the completion of their chosen projects. To make these projects accessible for everyone, we often break them down into small manageable steps, enabling meaningful participation and contribution at each stage. Our approach invites a broad range of skills and abilities, helping to develop dexterity, concentration and individual sensory preferences along the way.

In keeping with Camphill Communities’ tradition, we believe in making and providing for our needs through our own work, whether it’s crafting items for our homes, baking bread or cultivating the land. While some Camphill Communities with limited land resources have created goods for community shops, our tradition has been to celebrate, share and take pride in our achievements through the Advent Sale. It’s a unique opportunity to showcase the products of our year’s work while inviting others to enjoy and support our efforts.
